MultiBrowser: A Great Addition to OS X

It's a fact, some websites look and/or work better in different browsers.  For example, my WordPress site editor does some quirky things in Safari, but works great in Firefox.  Google Docs and GMail work better in Chrome (makes sense, Google wrote Chrome).  There's lots of reasons you might want to view a website in one particular browser and that one may not be your default.  MultiBrowser lets you choose which browser you want to open a link with and does so beautifully.
After installing the MultiBrowser PrefPane and setting MultiBrowser as your default browser, whenever you click on a link in an e-mail or any other document, MultiBrowser pops up a list of the browsers installed on your Mac and lets you choose which one to open the link with.  It couldn't be easier.  Additionally, the MultiBrowser popup is very attractive and completely configurable. It reminds me of Growl notifications except the list pops up at the mouse pointer.
Kudos for the developers.  By making this free, they've done the Mac community a great service.

OK, My Crystal Ball is a P.O.S.

So I'm not Carnac the Magnificent.  What's new?  Apple's announcement of the addition of the Beatles' music catalog to iTunes was not what I expected, BUT I STILL THINK THERE WILL BE AN iTUNES STREAMING SERVICE.  I just don't know when.

Adding the Beatles still doesn't explain Apple's need for a new 500,000 square foot datacenter or the modification or the iTunes preference file.  Apple certainly isn't discussing either.  I am obviously not afraid to admit when I'm wrong, but I still stick by my prediction.  It just makes too much sense.

Note to Apple PR Dept: Unforgettable? Really? Sheesh!

Stay tuned for more incorrect prognostications...

99% Chance iTunes Streaming Service Will be Announced Tomorrow

It doesn't take a soothsayer to figure out what Apple is up to with their day "you'll never forget" announcement tomorrow.  It is obvious they'll inform us of their new iTunes Streaming service.  Here's why:

  1. Several months ago, Apple bought Lala.com, a music streaming service.
  2. Last week, Apple's new 500,000 sq. ft. datacenter in North Carolina came on-line.
  3. Today I found this in the new iTunes 10.1 info.plist file:

I looked in the same .plist file in the 10.0 version of iTunes and it wasn't there.

I'm so certain, if Apple doesn't reveal a streaming service tomorrow I'LL EAT A BUG! (but not this one)

Make AirPrint Work in OS X 10.6.5

Apple released OS X 10.6.5 yesterday.  It included some bug fixes, but mainly added compatibility with iOS 4.2.  I downloaded the 500+ MB update anxious to get AirPrint working on my iPad.  Guess what?  Apple removed the features!  According to developers it was in the "gold master" beta version released last week, but for some reason it didn't make the final cut.
Fortunately, some kindly developers have made a fix available and it's fairly simple if you're not afraid to copy three files using Terminal.  Once you've done that, you'll need to restart your Mac, delete any printers you want to share via AirPrint and add them back in System Preferences.  I've put a copy of the files...
